Celebrity Style: Diane Kruger

Diane Kruger has emerged as a red carpet style fixture, and her preference for straight-from-the-runway looks has succeeded in capturing the attention of many a fashion house (think Burbury Prorsum, J. Mendel, Calvin Klein, Chloe, and of course Chanel). The German born beauty got her start as dancer in London, followed by a stint as a model in Paris (hence her knack for wearing the most haute couture designs without them “wearing” her). With a large body of European films, her turn as Helen of Troy in the 2004 blockbuster brought her under the Hollywood radar as an emerging engenue with more than a pretty face. Although her recent film roles haven’t achieved box office success, her red carpet appearances have been far from disappointing as she’s displayed an anything-but-formulaic sense of style and enviable confidence in her skin. We have a hard time pegging her as adhering to any one style, she’s sometimes European-chic, sometimes high-fashion, sometimes bohemian, but always classy. Perhaps what we enjoy most about her ensembles (besides her fab gams, of course) is her ability to cross boundaries, like infusing edginess into otherwise overly-feminine looks - she’s toughened up chiffon and ruffles with the addition of studded belts, smudged kohl eyes, and artfully undone hair that seems to suggest a pre-appearance romp (perhaps with beau Joshua Jackson?). We’re sure she has yet to peak, as many of her most recent appearances draw on a prosperous artist-muse relationship with Karl Lagerfield of Chanel, and have spawned many a memorable look.
